Prof. dr. Holger Cebulla
Holger Cebulla is a professor at the Chemnitz University of Technology, the oldest textile university in Germany, established in 1836. He studied at the Cooperative State University Heidenheim and at the Dresden University of Technology, where he obtained his doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Dr. h. c. mult. Peter Offermann. His doctoral research was recognized with four awards in 2005, including the internationally renowned TECHTEXTIL Innovation Award and the Award for Outstanding Dissertations of the German Textile Machinery Manufacturers’ Association (VDMA).
Following his PhD, he held research, development, and leadership positions in the textile machinery industry. From 2004 to 2006, he worked as Project Manager at Groz-Beckert KG before joining Rieter AG, where he held various management positions in Germany and Switzerland between 2007 and 2014. His industrial R&D activities resulted in three patents.
Since 2014, he has been a Professor of Textile Technology at the Chemnitz University of Technology. Between 2014 and 2017, he was a member of the German Cluster of Excellence ”MERGE” (Technologies for Multifunctional Lightweight Structures). His research focuses on innovative textile technologies, lightweight engineering, and sustainable manufacturing systems, bridging fundamental research and industrial application.
Since joining Chemnitz University of Technology, he has supervised 40 Bachelor’s theses, 54 Master’s theses, and 18 doctoral researchers, including seven completed doctorates. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications and serves as a reviewer for international journals, conferences and research funding agencies. He is Dean of Studies for the Master’s program Sustainable Textile Technologies and Outdoor Equipment.
His academic activities include establishing international collaborations with universities in Europe, Asia, and North America. Since 2017, he has co-organized the Chemnitz Textile Technology Conference and initiated the Sustainable Textile School Chemnitz. He is Director of the Cetex Institute and a founding member of several research and innovation initiatives in the fields of textiles and lightweight engineering in Saxony.
